Partner Action: Protect the Department of Education

Last week Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at eliminating the Department of Education, though he lacks the authority to unilaterally abolish a federal department established by Congress. This order instructs Secretary of Education Linda McMahon to facilitate the department's closure, setting the stage for further action while avoiding immediate legal challenges.

Trump’s goal is to weaken public education by starving the department of resources, potentially leading to its legislative abolition by Congressional Republicans. This follows recent layoffs of half the department's staff.

Without the DOE, millions of students and families will face dire consequences: ballooning class sizes, loss of teaching jobs, and diminished support for students with disabilities. Title IX protections will be rolled back, and funding for disadvantaged students will be jeopardized.

This effort aligns with a long-standing GOP goal to dismantle federal oversight, driven in part by billionaires seeking profit from privatized education. We must organize to protect public education and push back against this assault.

ICA & Partner Action: GOTV Week for WI Supreme Court Election

🚨 Get Out the Vote Week is Here! 🚨 We only have days left to make a difference! Help us protect Wisconsin’s liberal Supreme Court majority on April 1st!

Your support helped Justice Janet Protasiewicz win, and now we need your energy behind Susan Crawford as she runs for a crucial seat on the WI Supreme Court.

🗳️ Why this election matters:

  • Wisconsin’s Supreme Court is a critical battleground.

  • Judge Crawford is running to replace retiring Justice Ann Walsh Bradley. A win for Crawford keeps the court’s 4-3 liberal majority intact.

  • A loss to MAGA-backed Brad Schimel could flip the court conservative for the next decade.

This court will play a vital role in shaping the future of freedom, democracy, and workers’ rights. Issues like abortion access, voting rights, legislative maps, and collective bargaining are at stake.

👉 Here's what you can do this week to get out the vote!
