Partner Action: Urge Congress to Save Public Media

Public media is a trusted source of local news, emergency alerts, and educational programming — and it only costs taxpayers about $1.60 per person each year. But now it’s under attack.

The White House has proposed eliminating federal funding for public media, issued an Executive Order to block support for PBS and NPR, and is trying to claw back funding that Congress already approved.

Defunding or restricting funds for public media wouldn’t just disrupt these services — it could force stations to shut down entirely, especially in rural and underserved areas, leaving millions of Americans without access to these essential resources.

👉 Email your lawmakers and urge them to protect full federal funding for public media.

Partner Action: Protect our National Parks and Public Lands

Public lands belong to the people — not the fossil fuel industry. But a recent power grab threatens to hand over control of our national parks and 500 million acres of public land to Big Oil.

Without Senate confirmation, former oil and gas executive Tyler Hassen has been appointed to a powerful leadership role at the Department of the Interior. And on April 24, the Trump-appointed Interior Secretary signed an order granting him sweeping control over the agency’s budget and operations — with no public input or oversight.

Hassen’s deep industry ties are incompatible with protecting public lands. This move signals a dangerous shift: from conservation to exploitation.

👉 Tell your members of Congress: our public lands are not for sale.

Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I'm a constituent from [CITY, ZIP]. I'm calling to demand [REP/SEN NAME] protect our National Parks and public lands by opposing DOGE employee Tyler Hassen's appointment to Assistant Secretary of Policy Management and Budget of the Interior. Hassen’s extensive history as an oil and gas executive is completely at odds with the preservation and management of public lands, and DOGE has no place in management of our public lands.

ICA Action: No Cuts to Medicaid Phone Bank Wednesday

At the end of February, the GOP-controlled House voted for a Budget Resolution that proposes cutting $880 billion, primarily targeting Medicaid, which provides healthcare to over 72 million Americans. In Illinois, this affects nearly half our children, two-thirds of seniors in nursing homes, and 40% of all pregnancies.

The MAGA agenda seeks to slash these essential services, like Medicaid and SNAP, to fund tax giveaways for the ultra-wealthy, despite the failure of "trickle-down" economics.

This budget isn’t finalized yet! The GOP is trying to push it through by the end of the month. We’re calling constituents in Congressman Bost’s District IL-12 to oppose cuts to Medicaid, which supports almost 200,000 seniors, children, and low-wage workers.
