Monday, May 19 - Restore Americorps Funding / Indivisible Edgewater Launch 5/20 / Stand Up with Trans Up Front 5/20
Partner Action: Restore Americorps Funding
On April 16, Elon Musk’s DOGE moved to illegally dismantle AmeriCorps’ National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), an agency created by Congress. The program deploys 2,000 young volunteers for 10-month terms to aid communities affected by natural disasters like tornadoes, floods, Hurricane Helene, and the LA wildfires.
Volunteers work with local organizations on projects related to education, housing, land conservation, and disaster relief. Most agency personnel were placed on leave, and volunteers were dismissed without notice.
The closure endangers disaster relief efforts and underserved communities. On April 25, nearly $400 million in grants were abruptly terminated, shuttering over 1,000 programs nationwide. A coalition of states is now suing, asserting these cuts are illegal.
👉 Call on Congress to demand the restoration of staff and funding to this vital agency of deeply humanitarian workers.

Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP]. I’m calling on [REP/SEN NAME] to support legislation to restore funding and staff for AmeriCorps programs. Cuts to their vital disaster relief and community-building work harms Americans whose homes, livelihoods, and health have already been subjected to harm. It is critical we allow this agency's lifesaving work to resume immediately.
