ICA & Partner Action: URGENT National Call-In Day Against GOP Budget
We may have just a few days to stop the US House from passing the MAGA-Tax Breaks for Billionaires budget at the expense of what we all need for healthcare, food programs, public education, and more.
ICA and our partners are organizing a National Call-In Day TODAY, Tuesday, May 20th. Even if you have called before, please make calls to members of Congress to VOTE NO on the Reconciliation bill. You can mention the issues you care about within it, like Medicaid, SNAP, etc.
๐ Use the HANDS OFF MEDICAID hotline 866-426-2631 TODAY to oppose these harmful cuts!
ICA Action: No Cuts to Medicaid Phone Bank Wednesday
At the end of February, the GOP-controlled House voted for a Budget Resolution that proposes cutting $880 billion, primarily targeting Medicaid, which provides healthcare to over 72 million Americans. In Illinois, this affects nearly half our children, two-thirds of seniors in nursing homes, and 40% of all pregnancies.
The MAGA agenda seeks to slash these essential services, like Medicaid and SNAP, to fund tax giveaways for the ultra-wealthy, despite the failure of "trickle-down" economics.
This budget isnโt finalized yet! The GOP is trying to push it through by the end of the month. Weโre calling constituents in Congressman Bostโs District IL-12 to oppose cuts to Medicaid, which supports almost 200,000 seniors, children, and low-wage workers.

Public Comment to Protect Merit-Based Hiring by May 23
There is a Schedule F proposal to make government professionals currently hired based on merit into political appointees who can be fired โat will.โ Take a few minutes to write a public comment to help yourselves, your fellow citizens, and especially the professional civil servants in the federal government.
You can get a good background on this measure here or pull talking points from this OpEd by Indivisible Chicago leader Marj Halperin, this New Republic article or this writeup in Brookings.
Public comments matter, especially those that are well argued, substantive, and do not appear to be from a form letter.
๐ Please write and submit a comment by May 23 stating your opposition to the federal rule proposing to abolish the professional civil service and essentially convert the federal civil service to a patronage system.
This is one thing you can do in the next few days that will matter and show your support for federal employees!
