ICA & Partner Action: Save Medicare and Medicaid Protest 5/31

Join the “Save Medicare and Medicaid” group as we protest outside of the Chicago Blue Cross/Blue Shield building demanding the single best solution to the US healthcare crisis, Improved Medicare for All. Never has the need been greater.

Our already inadequate health care insurance system is being torn apart with proposed cuts to Medicaid, and the long knives will be coming next for the ACA. Meanwhile the privatization of Medicare continues.

The US healthcare system is renowned for being the most expensive, complex and confusing in the world, by far! Yet it produces only mediocre health outcomes.  WHY? Because the system is run primarily for profit and not for healthcare!

👉 Join us if you can:
WHAT: Day of Action for Medicare for All, Demonstrate and Demand Medicare for All
WHEN: 11am, Saturday, May 31st
WHERE: In front of the BC/BS building at 300 E. Randolph

ICA & Partner Action: Join Another Rally This Weekend!

Betty Alzamora of Indivisible Chicago has a clear message: we have to stay in the streets. We have to maintain a sustained presence, displaying publicly that we will not allow Trump, MAGA, Musk and his billionaire crew to steal from the poor to give to the rich.

Through protest we can make sure that the horrific reality of a Trump presidency is always in the face of everyday folks. This can help move public perception and lead to sweeping change at the midterms.

👉 We hope to see you at an upcoming rally this weekend!

Partner Action: Increase Access to Public Defense

Illinois’ chronic underfunding of public defense is a civil rights crisis. Public defenders are tasked with overwhelming caseloads and are often deprived of the resources required to provide quality defense. These dynamics disproportionately impact Black, Latinx, and rural communities. The robust pretrial hearing process required by the Pretrial Fairness Act makes increasing funding for public defense more important than ever.

The Funded Advocacy & Independent Representation (FAIR) Act can end this injustice. Illinois is one of only seven states without any statewide oversight or standards for trial-level public defense. The FAIR Act will bring Illinois public defense into the 21st century by creating a statewide office of public defense and increasing resources for public defense. By expanding the capacity of public defenders to represent the most vulnerable accused people, the FAIR Act will ensure that everyone is able to benefit from the rights enshrined in the Pretrial Fairness Act.

👉 Tell your Illinois legislators to pass the FAIR Act!
