Partner Action: Tell Congress to Support Supreme Court Reform
This October, the Supreme Court will hear Suncor Energy v. Boulder County, a major case over whether state and local governments can seek damages from fossil fuel companies for climate-related harms. Justice Samuel Alito has not recused himself, despite holding investments in fossil fuel, oil, gas, and mining companies.
The case is another reminder of a larger problem: Supreme Court justices serve for life and operate without a binding, enforceable code of ethics. Legislation has been introduced in Congress to establish 18-year term limits, while other proposals would strengthen ethics and accountability requirements for the Court.
