Partner Action: Fight Back Against GOP Gerrymandering

On July 24th, Trump signed an executive order titled “Ending Crime and Disorder on America’s Streets,” directing state and local governments to forcibly institutionalize unhoused people and those with substance abuse and mental health issues. While existing laws cover involuntary civil commitment, this EO pushes federal agencies to reverse legal precedents, loosen limitations, and cut funding for harm reduction and housing programs.

This policy risks incentivizing local governments to criminalize homelessness without due process, worsening the crisis instead of addressing root causes like affordable housing. Its vague definitions of mental illness and substance use could lead to unnecessary detentions and violate medical privacy rights.

Local leaders have condemned involuntary commitment as overused and harmful, straining already underfunded mental health systems.

State leaders must oppose these directives and focus on humane, data-driven solutions, not unjust punishment.

👉 Call Governor Pritzker at 312-814-2121 or another number listed here

Script: I’m calling to urge Governor J.B. Pritzker to refuse to implement the Trump administration’s involuntary civil commitment executive order. We should be focusing on data-driven humane solutions, not forcibly locking up and violating the rights of the unhoused and mentally ill.

ICA Action: Stand With Texas 8/16

The outrageous Texas power grab by Donald Trump and his fellow thugs is a political emergency with national implications. Through their brazen attempt to gerrymander 5 Congressional seats into the Republican column, they are undermining fair elections, silencing voters of color, and attacking our country's democratic foundations.

We need action everywhere because this will not stop in Texas. Illinois was one of the first states to stand up, showing that we are going to defend the vote, protect our rights, and oppose this anti-democratic power grab.

Come join us in downtown Chicago when we raise our voices with defenders of Democracy in cities across the nation on August 16 at 11:00 a.m. at 201 E Randolph St!

Partner Action: Beat Back Trump’s Attack on the Pretrial Fairness Act!

President Trump has said he wants to end the Pretrial Fairness Act and bring back money bail in Illinois. We are asking people from across the state to call on their legislators and Governor Pritzker to defend this historic victory from the Trump administration’s lies.

For decades, the size of a person’s bank account was the main factor determining who was jailed and who returned to the community while awaiting trial and presumed innocent. The money bond system caused countless people to lose their jobs, housing, and even custody of their children—not because they had been found to be a danger but simply because they couldn’t afford to purchase their freedom while awaiting trial.

What Donald Trump really means when he calls to bring back money bail is that he wants a system that punishes poor people and People of Color based on the size of their bank accounts and the color of their skin while rewarding wealthy and white people. Thousands of people from across our state came together to end this injustice; we cannot allow Trump to deny the will of the people.

👉 Join us in calling on Gov. Pritzker and the Illinois legislature to protect the Pretrial Fairness Act.
