Partner Action: Defend the Roadless Rule (Deadline 9/19)
Trump’s USDA is trying to strip protections from 45M acres of our National Forests by rescinding the Roadless Rule. Don’t let them take this from us! The land that defines our nation is in a fight for its life and it needs YOUR voice.
👉 Public Comments are open now until September 19 on the Federal Register and we need to to tell them NO!
It’s quick and simple. Please keep your comment unique (they throw out duplicates and foul language). Here are ideas for your comment:
Our National Forests are the watersheds of drinking water for 180M people. Putting in roads and logging will contaminate the water supply.
They are the homes to countless animals that require large swaths of land for their habitat - like the wolverine.
They are home to many vulnerable and threatened species. And the contaminated water will push them to the brink of extinction.
They are home to many culturally important and sacred places for indigenous communities.
Adding roads actually INCREASES wildfire risk by 4x and studies have proved most wildfires start near roads. And losing old growth trees makes forests less resilient to fire.
They already have the ability for small diameter logging to mitigate wildfire risk with the roadless rule in place!
For over 100 years, logging communities normally receive a % of the timber sales to help fund those schools and roads. The big ugly bill stripped ALL of that away - now all that is going to the treasury!
Partner Action: Practical Resistance Training 9/20
Practical Resistance is a day-long event for those who have some protest or ICEwatch experience and want to level up their current skills, connect, and plan with folks around the city.
Designed for non-targeted individuals, it will feature concepts of direct action with a selection of workshops: how to build a rapid response network; embodied and creative resistance; how to find your place in a movement; and discussions of legal and security issues.
This training is organized by Chicagoans who have been doing this work — Protect Rogers Park, One Northside, People’s Action, Southwest Side Rapid Response, States at the Core, and others!
👉 Learn more and register for Practical Resistance on Saturday, September 20 at 9 a.m. Registration closes Friday!
