Partner Action: 2nd District Health Care Candidate Forum 1/17
The Illinois Single Payer Coalition and the Illinois Chapter of Physicians for a National Health Plan are hosting a very timely Health Care Candidate Forum in the 2nd Congressional District.
This forum will be focused exclusively on health care policy. As Democrats and Republicans struggle over health care insurance subsidies, premiums are continuing to soar far past what the average American can afford. The endless and ever-increasing “cost-sharing” measures like deductibles, co-pays, and coverage limits mean Americans are paying more and more out of pocket for health insurance that covers less and less.
It’s more important than ever to get the candidates on the record and inform voters about where they stand on health care.

Partner Action: State Legislature Discussion 1/19
Join Indivisible Illinois for a discussion on what each level of government does and the importance of state legislatures in the balance of power.
It's a little known fact that our lives are impacted more by what happens in our state legislatures than by the federal government, but so few voters even know who their elected state legislators are. This is one of the important topics that will be addressed by our guests, Jess Piper and Erica Bray-Parker.
Jess Piper spent 16 years as a high school literature teacher. She then decided to run as a Democrat for state legislature in a red rural district in Missouri, so voters in her district would have the choice to vote for a Democrat. Jess was not elected. But she has used the experience to organize progressives in rural Missouri. Ms Piper will talk about the value of Democrats running for state legislature, even in bright red districts.
Erica Bray-Parker is a high school civics and psychology teacher. She has been on the Wheaton City Council since 2019, and is currently running for state representative. As a civics teacher, Erica has cultivated an expertise in the workings of government at the varied levels (local, state and federal). Ms Bray-Parker will share her expertise with us, so we know what each level of government is responsible for.
