Wednesday, January 31 - Canvass for Bring Chicago Home / Blue Thursday Political Happy Hour

Actions You Can Take

Action 1: Canvass for Bring Chicago Home

With over 68,000 people homeless in Chicago, the Bring Chicago Home coalition aims to create a dedicated revenue stream for the city to address homelessness by funding more permanent housing and supportive services. The proposal would be funded by changing the Real Estate Transfer Tax (RETT), a one-time tax on properties when they are sold, to a progressive structure. So properties sold for under a $1 million--roughly 96% of real estate sales in Chicago--would receive a tax cut, while properties sold for over $1 million would see a slight increase to the transfer tax. In order to enact this policy, Chicago voters need to VOTE YES on the referendum that will be on the March 19 primary ballot.

The Bring Chicago Home coalition has a number of phone banks scheduled for Saturdays, Sundays, and occasional weekdays, at various times and locations including South Shore, Bucktown, Uptown, and more. See the schedule and sign up to canvass.

Action 2: Blue Thursday Political Happy Hour 2/15

Join us for a very special Blue Thursday. Our guest for the evening will be the extraordinary organizer Emma Tai, former head of the political operation that elected Brandon Johnson and Delia Ramirez. She's now leading the Bring Chicago Home campaign, Mayor Johnson's proposal to fight homelessness with a "mansion tax" that asks the city's wealthiest--those who can afford to buy properties of $1 million or more--to help house 68,000 neighbors who have no homes. Of course it faces the usual barrage of misleading propaganda from real estate and business interests, so at this session we will be recruiting and mobilizing volunteers to spread the word about the proposal and persuade Chicago to VOTE YES.

Blue Thursday, hosted by Indivisible Chicago and its Hideout-based chapter, Blue Beginning, is a monthly mixer for pols, pundits, and persons of principle. Bar opens at 5:30, program starts at 6 on Thursday, February 15. Free and open to all, but please RSVP. Spread the word by sharing the event on Facebook.

While some of these Daily Actions come from our own work as Indivisible Chicago Alliance, others are from our many partners working to advance the progressive agenda. We invite you to join us in supporting their work. Postings from partners do not imply Indivisible Chicago Alliance endorsement of specific policies and positions.
