Actions You Can Take

Action 1: Tell Durin to Investigate SCOTUS

The Supreme Court term is finally over, with the MAGA supermajority leaving a string of disastrous decisions in their wake. This past month they:

  • Criminalized homelessness

  • Overturned a ban on bump stocks, leaving us all more vulnerable to gun violence

  • Empowered themselves, as unelected and unqualified justices, to make policy decisions instead of agency experts and elected Members of Congress

  • Sent two abortion cases back to the lower courts to stall the decisions, give MAGA judges more opportunities to restrict abortion access, and continue to let states implement more abortion and reproductive care bans

  • Made it harder for the Department of Justice to prosecute January 6 insurrectionists

  • Agreed that Trump has immunity for his crimes related to January 6, ensuring that his federal trials will be stalled until after the election

It’s completely unsurprising that the MAGA justices on the court ruled in favor of big corporations, special interests, and Donald Trump – they’ve demonstrated time and again that’s where their loyalty lies, not to the Constitution or the American people.

It’s clear that these MAGA justices cannot be fair and impartial arbiters of the law. In fact, our democracy is in danger the longer that they have the majority on the bench.

Will you join us for a week of action with Indivisible and Free Speech for People? Call Senator Durbin and demand that he investigate Supreme Court corruption.

As chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Durbin has the power to conduct oversight of the court. He should use it to lead a thorough investigation to hold these justices  accountable. He also must continue the investigation into Thomas, launch an investigation into Alito, and investigate the role that Chief Justice Roberts has played in the corruption. And they cannot be afraid to subpoena justices, if necessary. Contact Senator Durbin today, and every day this week!

Action 2: Tuesday Night Postcard Party TONIGHT

Come enjoy the camaraderie of writing postcards to voters in swing states with fellow Indivisible Chicago activists.

We're back at the Gideon Welles pub in Lincoln Square every Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00pm, writing postcards to get our voters to the polls in November.

If you can sign up in advance, it helps us let our GW hosts know how many people to expect, but last-minute walk-ins are always welcome.

Feel free to bring your own postcards if you've already ordered them from Postcards to Swing States, or just show up and we'll provide you with postcards, scripts, address lists, and pens.

Donations are welcome, either monetary or in the form of postcard stamps. We look forward to seeing you there!

Other ways to obtain postcards

If you’d like to write postcards on your own or host your own gatherings, go to www.turnoutpac.org/postcards, click on “Sign up for postcards,” complete your order and you’ll be mailed your free postcards along with messages to write and voter lists. (Note: If you enter “Indivisible Chicago” to the optional question on the form, “Are you ordering for a grassroots group?”, we can also let you know when postcard parties are scheduled nearby. Postcards will be provided at the parties or you can bring the postcards you’ve ordered.)

Indivisible Evanston is also distributing postcards for the Postcards to Swing State Campaigns.  There are two pickup locations in Evanston, one in Deerfield and one in Buffalo Grove. Sign up here.

Postcard writers are responsible for providing the postcard stamps (currently 53 cents), handwriting a short message and addressing the cards. The instructions include a specific mailing date in October, so you have until then to write the postcards.

While some of these Daily Actions come from our own work as Indivisible Chicago Alliance, others are from our many partners working to advance the progressive agenda. We invite you to join us in supporting their work. Postings from partners do not imply Indivisible Chicago Alliance endorsement of specific policies and positions.
