Tuesday, August 6 - Fair Elections Event 8/12 / Postcard Party in Lakeview and North Halsted 8/13

Actions You Can Take

Action 1: Fair Elections Event 8/12

Chicago is now the largest US city without any public financing system. Without public financing our alderpeople who are not independently wealthy, maybe subject to relying on larger donors for a campaign. Realistically that tends to subvert our democracy. Only wealthy folks can run, or they are more subject to the wishes of their large doners, drowning out the voice of the majority of the population. If we, the people, want as strong a voice, we must have public funding made available to match our small dollar donations.

Come to Sultzer Library August 12th to listen to the details of the Fair Elections Ordinance proposed by Chicago’s Ethics Committee, chaired by Alderman Matt Martin (47th). There will be time to understand the realistic financial commitment this would impose on Chicago; the safeguards against fraud written into the ordinance and the basis for believing this ordinance would move our City another step towards more democracy. RSVP here

This Ordinance is endorsed by co hosted by Asian American Midwest Progressives, Indivisible Lincoln Square and Indivisible Chicago Alliance and endorsed by the above groups as well as Citizen Action of Illinoi, JCUA Votes, League of Women Voters, Reform Illinois and The Peoples Lobby.

Action 2: Postcard Party in Lakeview and North Halsted 8/13

Hey Lakeview and North Halsted (and surrounding neighborhoods) and friends of La Perla Chicago Restaurant & Lounge. Want to write some postcards to the swing state voters who are going to make Kamala Harris our 47th President?

Come join us for great cocktails, wine and food for purchase, good company, and democracy at La Perla, on August 13th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, writing the postcards to urge our voters to get to the polls in November. Also, come and hear more about Indivisible Chicago and how together we can create a more progressive and sustainable future.

Postcards will go to voters in swing states, including Indivisible Chicago's target states Michigan and Wisconsin as well as others. Feel free to bring your own postcards if you've already ordered them from Postcards to Swing States, or just show up and we'll provide you with postcards, scripts, address lists, and pens.

NOTE: Due to the overwhelming response to our postcard parties and the bar's capacity limits, we ask that you register in advance. Unregistered walk-ins will be seated, as space permits, but may have to write their postcards elsewhere, once the bar is full.

Donations to pay for postage are welcome, either monetary or in the form of postcard stamps. We look forward to seeing you there!

Keep an eye on the ICA calendar for more postcard writing and election events!
