Action 2: Protect Abortion Access

We need Congress to step up and pass federal legislation to safeguard our reproductive freedom.

House Democrats have already rallied around the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) which would codify Roe v. Wade and affirm the right to abortion. Every Democrat – besides Reps. Cuellar and Gonzalez from Texas – has cosponsored WHPA and signed on to a discharge petition to force a floor vote on the bill. WHPA is a crucial first step, but we can’t stop there. There’s a lot to be done to ensure that everyone, everywhere has bodily autonomy – and can actually access the reproductive health care they want and need.

We need all Democrats to continue to fight for our reproductive rights and sign onto the bills in Indivisible’s Reproductive Freedom Agenda, which includes:

  • HR 783: Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act, to protect the right to travel in order to seek abortion care,

  • HR 3420: My Body, My Data Act, to protect personal reproductive health care data stored in apps, cell phones, and search engines, and

  • HR 4303: Abortion Justice Act, to protect meaningful access to abortion care for all

It’s crucial that Democrats fight for reproductive freedom, even while Republicans have the majority in the House. We know that abortion is a winning issue at the polls, and Members of Congress who are strong champions for abortion rights are strong candidates for 2024. Then, when Democrats regain the House, we’ve already built the support needed to pass these bills and protect our rights!

Call on your reps to encourage them to cosponsor all three bills in Indivisible’s Reproductive Freedom Agenda. Let them know that you’re counting on them to do everything they can to defend, and expand, our reproductive freedom.
