Action 1: Reject the Laken Riley Act

On January 7, the House of Representatives passed the Laken Riley Act (H.R. 29), and it’s headed to the Senate for a vote soon. This dangerous bill would impose mandatory detention on certain noncitizens, including undocumented individuals and DACA recipients, for minor offenses like shoplifting—even if they're never charged with a crime.

It would also empower state attorneys general, including those from states with anti-immigrant agendas, to dictate immigration policy at the federal level. This means they could seek federal court orders to detain and deport individuals, overturn humanitarian parole decisions, and impose visa bans on entire countries.

We must act now! Call our Illinois senators and urge them to reject this harmful legislation that undermines the Constitution and threatens our immigration system. Your voice matters—let’s make it heard!

Action 2: Stop the Trump Agenda Rally 1/20

As we prepare for the threats of a Trump presidency and Republican control of Congress, we must work side by side with all groups that oppose the MAGA agenda.

On Monday, January 20th, Indivisible Chicago-South Side and Indivisible Chicago Alliance will be joining the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (CAARPR) and other groups for a rally to Stop the Trump Agenda.

While January 20th is Inauguration Day, it is also the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. In Dr. King's honor, we must stand together to oppose the oppression and greed of the incoming MAGA regime.

  • When: Monday, January 20th, 11:00 am
